Rich became legally blind at age 10 and went to the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School for fifth through ninth grade.

 

After getting kicked out of IBSSS at the end of his ninth grade year, he told the school for the blind he would just go to public school.  The school for the blind told him he would never make it in public school.  What they really were saying is they didn’t teach blind kids what it was going to take to live a successful life in the sighted world.

 

I left the school with my new motto," If you don’t think I can do something, hide and watch".  

I did go to public school and after graduating went to Wartburg College where I earned a BA in Business Administration and a BS Bachelor of Science degree in three years.

 

I got my first job two months after graduating and was gainfully employed for the next 46 years before retiring.  While working I got my MBA from USD in 1982.

 

I have been an active member of a number of service clubs and have served on a number of boards over the years.

 

I have been married to Sara since 1982.  We have three grown children and three grandchildren.
